THE GAME
--------
The night before the big premiere, the projector at the Palace Picture House jams, the reel bursts,
and film history spills into the building. You're Frankie, the night-shift projectionist, and you
have until the audience arrives to collect the scattered frames and splice the film back together.

Reel Trouble is a flip-screen platformer in the spirit of Jet Set Willy: one screen at a time, every
screen a set from a different moment in cinema, every set a gag. Fall and it's not a death, it's a
retake: the clapper snaps, the room starts over, no lives, no game over. A grumpy critic in the
balcony, Mortimer Pan, reviews your every room in stars.

THE FREE DEMO
-------------
6 rooms from 1896 to 1939, a secret room and a finale. The first three:

Arrival of the Pain (1896) a steam train pulling into a seaside station
A Trip to the Moan (1902) a painted stage, and a rocket in the Moon's eye
Safety Second (1923) a climb up a giant clock face

The other three rooms, the secret room and the finale are for players to find: please keep them
a surprise where you can.

Frankie takes on the look of every room: grainy and flickering in the silents, painted cardboard
on the Melies stage, and on from there. Everything is original, homage and parody only.

The full game adds more wings of film history and more secrets, and the demo save comes with you.

HOW IT'S MADE
-------------
A game by HertzyPertzy, built with the help of AI coding agents (Claude, by Anthropic) under his
direction. No image, voice or music generators were used: every set, song and sound was built from
code. The sets are modelled and lit in Blender from Python scripts, with the lighting baked into
textures; the music and sound effects are written as code; automated test labs play every room and
fail if a film frame or an exit can't be reached. Music is original, plus public-domain Offenbach
and Bach arranged for the game, played by the MuseScore General soundfont. Thanks to Kenney for the
CC0 sound packs. Fonts: Inter, Limelight, Noto (SIL Open Font License).
